Caroline M. Scott

Washington, DC - Caroline (Milam Anderson) Scott, 97, native of Honea Path SC, widow of John William Scott, and resident of The Georgetown Residence, died Sunday June 10, 2012.

She was born in 1914, the daughter of George Ligon and Annie Shirley Anderson of Honea Path, S.C.

She graduated from Honea Path High School in 1932, and received a scholarship to Winthrop College in Rock Hill, S.C., where she was a member of Gamma Sigma Sorority. After graduation in 1936, she taught home economics in the Pacolet, S. C.  schools for two years and later in Lexington, S.C.

With her husband’s retirement in 1976, they relocated to Honea Path and later to Greenville, S.C.  After her husband’s death in 2008, Caroline moved to Washington, D.C., to be closer to her daughters.

She was a member of women’s groups at the Waterbury Congregational Church and Honea Path Presbyterian Church, the Dogwood Garden Club in Honea Path, and a founding member of the Obadiah Shirley Association, established to preserve the early 19th century home of her great-grandfather, in Honea Path.

Caroline was a talented seamstress and gardener, and an enthusiastic walker in her leisure time. She had an interest in the arts and took up painting in Vermont, studying under several teachers there and in Greenville.  She enjoyed travels with her husband to national parks in the US and Canada, the Caribbean, and the United Kingdom.
