Born in Ware Shoals, he was a son of the late Edward Daniel and Christine Hagood South. He was of the Baptist faith, and was a retired supervisor at Dixie Container Corporation.
Surviving are one son: James Edward South of Hodges; one brother: Charles Richard South of Ware Shoals; and one sister: Brenda South Strange of Ware Shoals.
He was pre-deceased by one sister: Toni Sue Strickland.
