Horace Phillips

Honea Path – Horace Paul Phillips, 81, husband of Jimmie Knight Phillips, of 106 Alewine Rd, died Monday, June 30, 2014 at Rainey Hospice House.

 

 

Born in Honea Path, he was a son of the late Maxwell “Carl” Caldwell and Eunice Mae Robinson Phillips. Mr. Phillips grew up in Greenwood and attended Greenwood public schools. He was a member of Honea Path Church of God and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Cuban missile crisis, and worked in the Aeronautics Industry. Mr. Phillips was a true Renaissance Man that could work on anything, loved teaching his children and grandchildren the ways of life, and was a dedicated and loving family man.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are: his son, William Maxwell “Maxie” Phillips and wife Cathy of Rock Hill, two daughters, Abby McClain and husband David of Belton, and Amy Wilson and husband Andy of Anderson, and five grandchildren, Emily Mahaffey, Paul McClain and wife Megan, Luke and Erin McClain, and Sloane Wilson.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Wesley, Charlie, and Alvis, and three sisters, Ruby, Louise, and Dorace.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Honea Path Church of God with Rev. Eric Shuler, Rev. Charlie Driggers, and Rev. Boyd King officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Garden of Memories.

The family is at the home of a daughter, 302 Carroll Lane, Belton, and will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Pruitt Funeral Home.
