Doug McClain

Donalds – James Douglas McClain, 81, widower of Dorothy Carolyn Thackston McClain, of 1104 Smith St. Ext, died Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at his home.

 

 

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late James Aiken McClain and Ruth Bannister Martin. He was an ordained Minister and a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church where he served as church musician for 25 years. He was a US Army veteran, having served in Vietnam and Korea, and retired after 24 years of service with the rank of Lt. Colonel.

Surviving are: two sons, Keith McClain of Ware Shoals and Kevin (Jo) McClain of Honea Path, a daughter, Kristi Davis of Lexington, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Kathi Johnson and his sister, Betty Ruth McClain.

Memorial services will be held 4 PM Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Northcutt and Rev. Dr. Bruce Ostrom officiating. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105, or at www.stjude.org
