Joyce McCuen

Ware Shoals – Joyce Kennedy McCuen, 90, widow of George Lee Milton McCuen, of 103 S. Greenwood Ave., died Monday, January 19, 2015 at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born in Wrightsville, Ga., she was a daughter of the late O.A. and Lanie Stephens Kennedy. She was a member of the Ware Shoals First Baptist Church where she worked in the Preschool Department for 38 years and served on several committees. She was a graduate of Wrightsville High School and attended Wesleyan Conservatory in Macon, Ga.

She had worked in the Signal Corps at Warner Robbins Air Force Base, Warner Robbins, Ga. and later in Personnel for the Jacksonville Motor Company, Jacksonville, Fl. While in Jacksonville she was active in the Woman’s Traffic Club.

She was active in the Ware Shoals Jaycee-Ettes and was a member of the Greenwood County Beautification Committee for many years. She was also a charter member and past president of the Ware  Shoals Woman’s Civic Club.

Surviving are two daughters, Joy McCuen Moore and husband Greg of Lexington and Lee McCuen Hancock and husband Tom of Anderson, a grandson, Brett Lind of Lexington, and a granddaughter, Sally Hancock of Anderson. She was pre-deceased by a brother, two sisters, and a son-in-law.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Ware Shoals First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Leon Jones and Rev. Dan Compton. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Friday at Ware Shoals First Baptist Church prior to the service.
