Ruby Johnston

Honea Path – Ruby Evelyn McClain Johnston, 104, widow of Charles Lanford Johnston, formerly of 12410 BHP Highway, died Saturday, March 7, 2015 at The Maples, 13 days prior to the celebration of her 105th birthday.

 

Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Ralph Eugene and Laura Moore McClain. She was a member of the Honea Path First Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and co-owner of Johnston Livestock. She was a former member of the Dogwood Garden Club.

Surviving are a son, Gary Johnston and wife Nancy and a daughter Linda DeShields and husband Joe, all of Honea Path; five grandchildren, Jana(Tony) Davis, Kelly Wilson, Ed Fields, Greg DeShields, and Amy (Tim) Shepherd; seven great-grandchildren, Leighton and Makenna Davis, Kelci and Katie Wilson, Lorelei Roberts, Jake DeShields, and Riley Shepherd; and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband, she was pre-deceased by two sons, Charles Bradley and David Johnston; four brothers, Dr. Roy O. McClain, Paul McClain, Ward McClain, and Ralph McClain; and a sister Gladys McClain.

Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. on Monday, March 9,2015 at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Beaver and Rev. Paul Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories.

The family is at the home of her daughter, Linda Deshields, 1805 Austin Road, and will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. on Sunday at Pruitt Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.ParkerWhitePruitt.com
