Reid Goodbar

Rock Hill – Reid Coleman Goodbar, 90, husband of Kathryn Bishop Goodbar, of 3025 Chesbrough  Blvd., formerly of Ware Shoals, died on Sunday, July 19, 2015 in Rock Hill, S.C.

Born in Lexington, Va., the son of Lacy A. and Louise Kirby Goodbar.  After serving with the US Navy in WWII, he attended ErskineCollege where he met his wife, Kathryn. Following graduation, he remained at Erskine for five years teaching in the Science Department. For the next thirty-five years he was employed with Riegel Textile Corporation/Mount Vernon Mills in Ware Shoals, SC. He held various managerial positions including research and development and retired in 1990..

He served as Chairman of United Way and Ware Shoals District 51 Board of Trustees. He and Kathryn moved to ParkPointeVillage (formerly CarolinaVillage) in Rock Hill in 2001. He was a member of MountGallagherBaptistChurch, Ware Shoals, SC where he had served as treasurer, deacon, and Sunday School teacher.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 65 years, are two sons, Dr. Robert C. Goodbar and wife Vicky of Rock Hill and Dr. Tony R. Goodbar and wife Susan of Simpsonville, SC, and eight grandchildren, Stephen Goodbar (Megan) of Rock Hill, Dr. Neal Goodbar (Dr. Nancy Hope Goodbar) of Clinton, SC, Dr. Blake Goodbar of Charlotte, NC, Adam Goodbar of Redmond, WA, Amy Goodbar, Mary Ruth Goodbar, Grace Goodbar, and Timothy Goodbar all of Simpsonville, SC. and four great-grandchildren, Reid, Coleman, Katie Hope, and Henry Goodbar. Also surviving is one sister, Ada Mae Greene of Pawley’s Island, SC.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Mt.GallagherBaptistsChurch with Rev. Dr. Marcus Bishop and Rev. Melvin Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in GreenwoodMemorialGardens.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 A.M.
