Born in Honea Path, he was a son of the late William Clyde and Myrtie Ashley. He was a deacon and member of Chiquola Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for 45 years. He was a veteran of the US Army World War II.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years of the home, a daughter, Angela (Angel) Sue Ashley of Honea Path, a sister, Becky Smith of Hodges, and two grandchildren, Brandyn Ashley and Micah Holmes. He was pre-deceased by a brother, William Clyde Ashley, Jr., and a sister, Joyce Fields.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Saturday at Chiquola Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Powell and Dr. Jerry White officiating. Private burial at Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery will be held at a later date.
The family is at the home and will receive friends from 1 to 3 PM Saturday at Chiquola Baptist Church prior to the service. The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorials made to Chiquola Baptist Church Youth Ministries, 405 East Greer St., Honea Path, SC 29654.
