Born in Anderson county, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Grady and Essie Wiggins Gilmer. She was a member of the Honea Path Church of God of Prophecy and was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills.

Surviving are two sons, Thomas Pelham Alverson of Honea Path and Robert Dale Alverson (Julie) of Ware Shoals, a brother, Thomas Gilmer of Honea Path, a sister Mabel Shaw of Anderson, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Shirly Ann Blanton.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Crocker and Rev. Andrew Overby officiating. Private burial will follow in the Garden of Memories.
