James McCurry

Ware Shoals – James Robert McCurry, 85, widower of Barbara Jo Cobb McCurry, of 33 S. Greenwood Ave., died Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Self Regional Healthcare.

 

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late John Allen and Zola Fields McCurry. He was a member of Ware Shoals First Baptist Church, where he served as custodian for many years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. James was retired from the United States Postal Service, after working at the Ware Shoals Post Office for over 25 years. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are: special niece, Shelley (Rev. Mark) Strickland of Greenwood, four grandchildren: Jacob, Haley, Andrew, and Jenna Grace Strickland, and several other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he preceded in death by two brothers, Jack McCurry and Dewayne McCurry, and two sisters, Mary McCoy and Ann Lawson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Ware Shoals First Baptist Church with Rev. Leon Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home and will receive friends from 1-2 P.M. Wednesday at the church prior to the service.
