Kent Burdette

Ware Shoals – Julian Kent Burdette, 94, husband of Doris Brown Burdette, of Higgins Drive, died Friday, July 6, 2018 at Hospice Care of the Piedmont in Greenwood.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late James Leroy, Sr. and Mittie Loftis Burdette. He was a member, deacon, and Silver Lining Choir member at the Ware Shoals First Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, World War II.  He was a retired lineman for Duke Energy and enjoyed the Duke Energy Retirement Club.  He was a Lion, a Master Mason, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and served on the Election Commission as a poll worker. As a master gardener he enjoyed sharing with the community.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 69 years of the home are two sons, Allen Burdette (Linda) of Greenwood and Don Burdette (Kathy) of Mauldin, a daughter, Carolyn Burdette of Ware Shoals, a sister, Mary Smith of Piedmont, four grandchildren, Brandy Farmer, Kathryn Irwin, Morgan Jenny, and Jacob Burdette, six great-grandchildren, Drayton Farmer, Jackson Farmer, Maddie Farmer, Carson Irwin, Halden Irwin, and Harper Burdette, and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by twelve brothers, Dewey, Ramoth, Morgan, Ernest, Coleman, Jack, David, Griffin, Cecil, Leroy, Harper, and Marion, and a sister Hilda Burdette Brown.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday, July 9, 2018 at the Ware Shoals First Baptist Church with Rev. Floyd Parker officiating. Burial will be at 3 P.M. Monday in Iva City Cemetery, Iva.

The family is at the home and will receive friends following the service on Monday at the Ware Shoals First Baptist Church.
