Born in Greenwood he was a son of the late Charles Arthur Gerrish and Sybil Agnes Davis Libby. He was of the Baptist Faith, a graduate of Dixie High School, and an outdoorsman who loved to fish.

Surviving are a son, Christopher Holden Calvert of Key West, Fl., a step-son, Justin Calvert of Hodges,  two brothers, Michael Gerrish of Cowpens, and Matthew Gerrish of McCormick, his aunt, Evelyn Hughes of Honea Path, his uncle, Don Davis of Anderson, and a number of nieces and nephews.
