Born in Anderson he was a son of the late Donald Edward “Tim” Linda Loftis Gunnells. He was of the Pentecostal Faith and was a brick mason.

Edward was survived by a sister, Annette G. Alewine of Honea Path, nieces, Jenny Alewine and Jane Moore, and a nephew, Travis Alewine. He was pre-deceased by a sister Janice Lynn Gunnells.
