Born in Spartanburg County, he was a son of the late Joe and Agnes Sexton Merritt. He was a retired Carpenter and was of the Church of God Faith.

Surviving are his wife of the home, four brothers, Michael Merritt (Virginia) of Anderson, Alvin Merritt (Dana) of Greenwood, Aaron Merritt of Greenwood, and Darrell Merritt of McCormick.. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Dennis Merritt.

A private memorial service with limited seating will be held on Thursday at 11 AM at Parker-White Funeral Home Chapel, Ware Shoals,  with Rev. Mark Lowe officiating. Masks are required and social distancing will be followed.

The family is at the home 6 East Fleming St., Ware Shoals and will receive friends at the home from 1 PM to 6 PM Wednesday. In Lieu of flowers memorials should be made to Gethsemane Church, 5010  US 25, Hodges, SC 29653. Online condolences may be made at www.ParkerWhitePruitt.com
