Born in New Hope, Alabama, he was a son of the late Joseph Emanuel and Ferbie Lee Patterson Kennedy. He was of the Baptist Faith and was retired as a machinist from LTV Steel Mill of East Chicago, Indiana. He was a member of the Independent Lodge #23 A.F.M.

Surviving are his wife of the home, two daughters, Denita McGregor of Honea Path and Penny Louise Harris (Donald) of Honea Path, six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one daughter-in-law, Wanda Kennedy. He was pre-deceased by a son, Barry David Kennedy and a brother Billy Gene Kennedy.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday at Keowee Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jason Sturkie officiating.
