Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Will and Ola Nabors Smith. He was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, World War II.

Surviving are his son-in-law, Jerry Ray Smith of Hodges, two brothers, George and Buck Smith both of Hodges, and a grandson, John (Bob) Abrams of Hodges. He was predeceased by an infant son, John William Smith, a daughter, Barbara “Bootsie” Smith, six brothers, Ray, Earl, Andy, Charlie, James and Frank Smith, and two sisters, Nan McDonald and Emma Lee Hill.

Graveside services will be held at 3 PM on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Greenwood Memorial Gardens with Rev. Charles Robertson officiating.
