Polly Wood Lineberger

Ware Shoals – Polly Wood Lineberger, 91, widow of Marion Thomas Lineberger, Sr., formerly of Mt. Bethel Road, passed on to her heavenly home on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Community in Laurens.

Born in Ware Shoals on July 28th 1931, she was a daughter of the late George Dewey and Mary Frances Abrams Wood. She lived and attended school in the Poplar Springs Community. She attended Furman University and obtained a BA degree in Education where she met her husband. She taught first grade for a year in Wilson County, NC and was appointed with her husband as missionaries in 1964. They moved to Costa Rica for a year to attend language school and moved to their place of service, Argentina, in 1965 where they served until their retirement in 1996. She was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Marion Thomas Lineberger, Jr.(Deborah) of Ware Shoals, three daughters, Mary Nell Lopez (Milton) of Ware Shoals, Mona Ruth Grillo (Ricardo) of Santa Clara, CA, and Anita Pricilla Squires (Scott) of Pinehurst, NC, a brother, Charles Wood (Betty) of Ware Shoals, a sister, Ellen Simpson (John) of Ware Shoals, nine grandchildren, Natalie Lineberger, Monica Lineberger, Guillermo Lopez (Katherine), Fabiana Lopez (Zack), Paul-Hector Vanneste, Louis Vanneste, Hannah Squires, Mary Squires Long (Dylan), and Noah Squires (Emily) and five great-grandchildren, Kilian Lineberger, Rafael Lineberger, Lilyana Lopez, Liam Lindsay, and Elanor Squires.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was pre-deceased by three brothers, Lewis, George, Jr., and David Wood and three sisters, Rebecca W. Bishop, Ann W. Early, and Thelma Wood.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Chaplain Scott Squires and Mr. Noah Squires officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

The family will be at their respective homes and will speak to friends in the social hall of Poplar Springs Baptist Church after the graveside service. The family requests that flowers be omitted and donations be made to the cause of missions around the world thru Poplar Springs Baptist Church, Box 124 Ware Shoals SC 29692, and the International Mission Board, 3806 Monument Ave., Richmond VA 23230.
