Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Alver and Lucille Thelma Ricketts Ashley. He worked as a carpenter.

In addition to his wife of the home, Mr. Ashley is survived by his son Rodney David Ashley of Honea Path, his daughter Amanda Ashley Bates and husband Rodney of Honea Path, his brother Lynn Ashley of Honea Path, his sister Edna Nimmons of Honea Path, five grandchildren: Justin Ashley, Ryan Ashley, Christian Ashley, Colby Bates and Emma Bates; and three great-grandchildren: Campbell Ashley, Alivia Ashley and Laken Ashley.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Kimberly Lane Ashley, five brothers: James, Ralph, Jerry, Albert and Dale Ashley; and his sister Margaret Gambrell.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 Monday at the Garden of Memories with Rev. Richard Ashley officiating.
