Born in Monterey, CA, he was a son of the late James William and Frances Zelpha Lindley Kerr. He was a graduate of Ware Shoals High School Class of 1979 and was formerly employed by Ware Shoals Plastics.

Surviving are a sister, Susan Terry of Hodges, a nephew Kerry Holley (Jamie) of Hodges, great nephew, Chevy Holley (Crystal), a great niece, Jordon Holley of Alabama, a great-great nephew, Parker Holley, and a great-great niece Gracie Holley.
