Born in Belton, a lifetime resident of Honea Path, she was a daughter of the late J.D. Hopkins and the late Sue Dela Hanvey Smith. She retired from Monsanto of Greenwood after 30 years of service. She graduated from BHP in 1983 with her youngest son Lee and oldest son, Tony. She was the oldest member of her graduating class being 46 years of age. She was a member of Honea Path Church of God.
She married the love of her life, Ken Greenway in 1998 after dating for 13 years. They enjoyed being on the lake and camping. After Ken’s death in 2007 she continued to camp with Lee and his family.
She had a host of friendships and enjoyed sharing time with them at The Biscuit Barn, Pop’s Diner and Lou & Perry’s. Her greatest treasure in life was being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by one son, Phillip Lee (Tina) Ashley of Honea Path; one daughter, Sharon Denise Brock Shanley of Honea Path; one sister, Geraldine H. (Wade) Gambrell of Honea Path; six grandchildren, Shannon Brock (Mike) Stutler of Anderson; Ashley Chantelle Shearin of Houston, TX; Taylor Ashley of Charleston; Brandy Pearson(Cory) Coleman of Belton; Megan Ashley (Paul) McClain of Belton; Jennifer Ashley (Tim) Wright of Belton; nine great grandchildren, Ethan Conde, Austin Owens, Kyleigh Adrianna Poole, Jayden Kyree Coleman, Sarah Ellen McClain, John David McClain, Elsie Rose McClain, Raylen Grace Wright and Emory Renee Wright: four great great grandchildren. Along with her parents and husband, she is predeceased by two sons, Charles Anthony “Tony” Ashley and Steven R. Ashley; one daughter, Kimberly Jo Kearns; one brother, James Roy Hopkins, step father Dillard L. Smith.
The family would like to thank her loving neighbors, Chris Hall and his wife Tara, her doctors, nurses and aids at 7 South An Med Hospital, and the loving staff at Rainey Hospice House for the wonderful care and love bestowed upon them during her last week of life.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 8, 2025, Belton Pentecostal Holiness Church at 3 P.M. with the Rev. Randy Goff officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-3 P.M. at the church. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories.
