Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late George Leo, Sr. and Hazel Mullins Hitt. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired from Michelin Tire Corporation.

Surviving are: two daughters, Melanie Hitt of Woodruff and Cathy Manley of Anderson; four grandchildren, Melinda (Tony) Carter, Samuel Gaddis, John Ben Fricks and Amanda Cathleen Manley; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hitt was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny Hitt and James Hitt; and a grandson, Brandon Jordan Manley.
