Born in Bradenton, Florida in 1934, he was the son of Honea Path native, James Albert Kay and Laura Dodson. A graduate of the University of Florida with a degree in Finance, Jerry served two years in the U.S. Army, then began his banking career with the First National Bank of Atlanta in 1962, retiring after thirty years as Vice-President and Trust Investment Officer of Wachovia Bank.
With an interest in American and local history, he was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and was a supporting member of the Belton Area Museum Association. Along with three cousins, Jerry spent many years of research in compiling the book, The Descendants of Robert Kay of South Carolina.
Honoring his request, his cremains will be interred with those of his parents and sister at Eastview Cemetery in Honea Path, with a graveside service at 11 AM on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
