Born in Ware Shoals, he was a son of the late Harold E. “Bill” and Sarah Geneva Cole Gambrell. He was of the Baptist faith and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a retired brick mason and was formerly employed by the Town of Ware Shoals and an avid fisherman.

Surviving are his partner, Christy Kernells, two sons, William Jordan Gambrell Jr. (Katharina) of Ware Shoals, and Bradley Joseph Gambrell of Waterloo, two daughters, Crystal Higgins (Cale) of Shoals Junction, and Amandia Johnson (Tim) of Lexington, three brothers, Harold Gambrell of New Mexico, Doug Gambrell (Linda) of Union, Mike Gambrell (Kim) of Laurens, and six grandchildren, Dalton, Ethan, Billy, Makenzie, Chasity, and Hayden and two great-grandchildren, Landon and Benton.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Laylon Gambrell and two sisters, Nancy Madden and Donna Phillips.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Greenville Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Rev. Billy Slatten officiating
