Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Mason Smith and the late Lois Inez Brock Smith Tinsley. She was a long time and faithful member of Little River Baptist Church. Peggy retired from Anderson School District 2, after having worked in the cafeteria of Wright Elementary School. Prior to that, she worked for many years at Becton-Dickerson. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are: her son, Roger Dale (LeeAnn) Alewine of Williamston; her daughter, Cindy Alewine (Rocky) Whitfield of Anderson; two grandchildren, Scott Whitfield and Justin (Alyssa) Whitfield; and four great-grandchildren, Raelyn Whitfield, Emberly Whitfield, Ashlyn Whitfield and RS Whitfield.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three brothers, Ray Smith, Billy Smith and Haynie Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday at Little River Baptist Church with Rev. Garrett Hart officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends from 1:30-3 P.M. Sunday at the church prior to the service.
