Born in Clinton, he was a son of the late Claude and Carol Ivey Birchmore. He was of the Old Catholic faith, and worked as a police officer. He was a family man, and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, as well as working with his hands, especially woodworking.

In addition to his wife Sarah, Mr. Birchmore is survived by his two sons: Zachary Koon (Chelsea Wood) of Anderson and Nicholas Craig Birchmore of Honea Path; three daughters: Samantha Koon of Greenville, Lillianne Birchmore of Honea Path and Iva Birchmore of Honea Path; his brother Duane Birchmore (Melanie) of Union; four grandchildren: Shane Wood, Cirilla Koon, Olivia Koon and Evan Koon; his nephew Thad Birchmore and his niece Caroline Birchmore.
