A.C. Jones

Ware Shoals – Adam Crane “A.C.” Jones, Jr.  94, of East Summit Dr., husband of Shelby Tumblin Jones, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at his home.

Born on December 9, 1929 in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Adam Crane Sr. and Marie Humbert Jones. He was a member and deacon of the Ware Shoals First Baptist Church where he had attended the Gardner Memorial–Goodwill Sunday School Class. A.C. served as an alderman on the first council for the Town of Ware Shoals when it was incorporated in 1967. He later served as its mayor from January 1971 to December 1975 and from January 1979 to December 1980.

He was a graduate of Ware Shoals High School class of 1947 and was the first student body President of Ware Shoals High. After high school, he graduated from the University of South Carolina in June of 1953 with a B.S. in Business Administration and served in the U.S. Air Force. He retired as a Tax Auditor from the S.C. Department of Revenue, formerly the S.C. Tax Commission and was formerly employed by Riegel Textile Co., Accounting department, and manager of the Tax department. He was a member of the Ware Shoals Lions Club for over 50 years where he served as secretary – treasurer for many years.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Shelby Jean Tumblin Jones of the home, a son, Jeff Jones (Kim) of Ware Shoals, and a daughter, Kelly Sullivan of Greenwood, two grandchildren, Drs. Adam Sullivan (Sara) of Simpsonville and Susanna Tharpe of Greenville, five great grandchildren, Rowan Sullivan, Quinn Sullivan, Abram Sullivan, Jackson Tharpe, and Anna Townes Tharpe, a sister-in-law, Marion Jones of Summerville, and a nephew, Gary Jones (Rosie) of Goose Creek. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother William Gordon “Bill” Jones.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 2:30 PM at the Ware Shoals First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Floyd Parker, Mr. Dan Branyon, and Coach Tommy Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Oakbrook Memorial Park, Hodges.
