Born in Honea Path, he was a son of the late Raymond and Ella Gambrell Phillips. He was a member of Broadmouth Baptist Church and was retired from Riegel Textile Co. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, World War II.
Surviving are two sons, John Wayne Phillips of Honea Path and Jackie A. Phillips and wife Nancy of Donalds, a sister, Janie Ashley of Donalds, five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a special caretaker, Marylyn Page. He was pre-deceased by three brothers, Ralph, Marvin, and Frank Phillips, two sisters, Sara Ballard and Eva Parris, and a grandson, Jeff McClain.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday at Broadmouth Baptist Church with Rev. Justin Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery.
