William M. “Red” Bowie

Ware Shoals – William Maurice “Red” Bowie, 91, husband of Sara Watt Bowie of 24 E. Summit Drive, died Sunday August 7, 2011.

Born in Greenwood County, he was the son of the late R. Wallace and Mary Lou Balentine Bowie. He was a member of Ware Shoals First Baptist Church where he was a member of the choir and of the Calliham – Morgan Sunday School class. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, was a shriner and a member of Ware Shoals Lodge #306 A.F.M. He was owner and operator of Bowie’s Grocery Store for more than 40 years and had most recently been employed by Piggly Wiggly in Ware Shoals. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are, two sons; Keith (Pam) Bowie of Bar Harbor Maine and Jim (Rosemary) Bowie of Chapin SC, one sister; Bobbie Smith of Columbia SC, four grandchildren; Kristin (Torsten) Seifert, John (Melissa) Bowie, Patricia Bowie and Sara Chandler Bowie, one great-grandchild; Sebastian Seifert.

Funeral services will be 3PM Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Ware Shoals First Baptist Church with Rev. Leon Jones and Mr. Dan Branyon officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home and will receive friends at the church Thursday from 1:30 – 2:45. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Ware Shoals First Baptist Church, PO Box 449 Ware Shoals, SC 29692. Parker-White Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
