Nathan Shirley

Honea Path – Jasper Nathan Shirley, 84, husband of Frances Wilson Shirley of 64 years, died at his residence in Honea Path on Tuesday, March 27, 2012.

Born in Honea Path on August 8, 1927, he was a son of the late Hoyt B. and Nellie W. Shirley.  He was a member of Barkers Creek Baptist Church and served as a deacon and Brotherhood President for several years.  He was also active in the church choir and as a church teller.  Nathan was a graduate of Honea Path High School in 1945 and in1963 was recognized as the Outstanding Young Farmer by the Chamber of Commerce. He was co-partner of Shirley Dairy Farm in Honea Path with his brother from 1915 – 1986.  After retirement, he worked for the Anderson County School District as a bus driver.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are:  one son, Larry Shirley and wife Cathy of Honea Path; two daughters, Alice Shirley Shook and husband David of Mt. Pleasant and Nellie Shirley of Anderson; two brothers, James  Shirley and wife Jewell and Addison Shirley and wife Grace all of Honea Path; two sisters, Martha Shirley Knight of Princeton and Faye Shirley Vaughan of Augusta, GA.; four grandchildren, Seth Shirley and wife Melody of Seneca, Matt Shirley of Honea Path, Rachel Shirley Boggs and husband Ryan of Honea Path and Trenton Shook and wife Caroline of Greenville; two great-granddaughters, Sutton Shook and Adalyn Boggs.  Nathan was preceded in death by his sister Vivian Beach of Bluffton.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Thursday at Barkers Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Wesley Taylor officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 10AM.  Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday at Pruitt Funeral Home.  Memorials may be made to Barkers Creek Benevolence Fund, 3207 Hwy 252, Honea Path, SC 29654. The family will be at the home.  Online condolences may be made at www.parkerwhitepruitt.com
