Margie Phillips

Honea Path – Margie Cardelia Lay Phillips, 88, widow of Jessie James Phillips, of 17877 Hwy 76 West, died Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at her home.

 

Born in Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late Jessie and Viola Crane Lay. She was a member of Columbia Baptist Church where she was a children’s teacher and a member of the choir. She was retired from Riegel Textile Corp.

Surviving are: two sons, Ralph Phillips and wife Mary, and Ronnie Phillips and wife Becky, all of Honea Path, four daughters, Charlotte Robinson and husband Jack of Belton, Nancy Stone and husband Stephen of Winnsboro, Patricia Dyal of Newberry, and Rita Hester and husband Mike of Pelzer, three brothers, Verner Lay of Walhalla, and Rufus and Mason Lay, both of Seneca, five sisters, Beatrice Kelly of Walhalla, Dorothy Poore of Salem, Ruth Rollins of Easley, and Sara White and Marian Pearson, both of Seneca and fourteen grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Jerry Phillips, two brothers, Clyde and Christopher Lay, and three sisters, Carolyn Heaton, Ruby Dills, and Pauline Murphy.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Columbia Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Crocker and Rev. Scotty Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
