Joseph “Hamp” Darby

Honea Path- Joseph Hampton “Hamp” Darby, 92, widower of Iris Russie Davis Darby, of 10756 Augusta Rd, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at his home.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Joseph H. and Mary Chapman Darby, Sr. He was a member of Columbia Baptist Church and was retired from Greenville County Maintenance and Milliken of Honea Path. He was a member of Princeton Lodge #129 A.F.M. and Woodmen of the World. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, 3rd Infantry, 1st Division and served in the European Theatre during World War II.

Surviving are a brother, William Clinton Darby of Petersburg, VA, a sister, Elizabeth Wilbanks of Aurora, CO, a sister-in-law, Virginia S. Davis of Honea Path, and a number of nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Randolph and Alvin Darby, and three sisters, Sara Darby Kay, Vera Mae Darby Armstrong, and Mildred Louise Darby.

Funeral services will be held 3PM Friday, January 25, 2013 at Columbia Baptist Church with Rev. Scotty Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home and will receive friends 6-8PM Thursday at Pruitt Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Open Arms Hospice, 1836 W.
