Ruth Shaw

Greenville – Ruth Caroline Shaw, 92, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at The Palmettos of Mauldin.

 

 

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Henry Prue and Pearl Sarah Etta Lindley Shaw. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. She was also an active member of the D.A.R. She received her bachelor’s degree from Colorado College, and her master’s degree from Auburn University. She served as a toastmistress in the Air Force Officers’ Wives’ Club at the Air Force Academy and at Maxwell Air Force Base.

Surviving are: one son, Joseph Bruce Black (Peggy) of Norcross, Ga.; one daughter, Jane Shaw Whitley (Terry) of Simpsonville; one brother, James Henry Shaw of Athens, Ga.; two sisters, Letha Shaw Draper of Monroe, Ga. and Martha Hill of Athens, Ga.; four grandchildren, Benjamin O’Neil Whitley (Audrey), Emily Caroline Whitley, Sarah Elizabeth Whitley and Joseph Edwin Black and two great-grandchildren.   She was predeceased by two brothers, Curtis P. Shaw and Thomas Harper Shaw; two sisters, Clara Timmerman and Delma Reep and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 12:10 pm at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Simpsonville.  Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
