Mary Lou Johnston

Honea Path - Mary Lou Gambrell Johnston, 84, formerly of 11768 Highway 25, Princeton, wife of David B.Johnston, died Sunday in Belton.

 

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late William Robert and Effie Rosella Lollis Gambrell. She was twice married, first to the late Joe Vennon “Jake” Strickland. She was a member of Columbia Baptist Church and was retired from Huggins Garment Company.

Surviving are her husband of the home, a son, Bobby Joe “Strick” Strickland of Anderson, a daughter, Brenda S. Nelson of Honea Path, five step-daughters, Sandra Price of Abbeville, Judy Fowler of Calhoun, Ga., Carole Strickland of Honea Path, Tammie Gilstrap of Belton, and Linda Elmore of Belton, two brothers, Dewey Gambrell and Jack Gambrell and wife Roseanne, and three sisters, Clara Bell Vaughn, Lola Mae Arnold, and Helen Sparks. She was also survived by 16 grandchildren including Bobby Joe “Little Bobbie” Strickland and Jimmy Joe Nelson, and 15 great-grandchildren including Britney Renee Strickland, and special friend, Annie Washington.

She was pre-deceased by two brothers, Junior Ray Gambrell and A. C. Gambrell, and one sister, Ethel Vaughn.

Funeral services  will be held2 P.M. Tuesday at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scottie Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in Princeton Baptist Church Cemetery.
