Born in Oconee County, he was a son of the late Christopher and Lois Phillips Lay. He was a member of Princeton Baptist Church and was retired from Beverage Air.

Surviving are his wife of the home, two sons, Roger “Chris” Lay, Jr. and wife Annette of Belton and Dewey Lay of Princeton, a brother, Kenneth Lay and wife Jamie of Belton, a sister, Sherry Watkins of Anderson, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and two special nieces, Sonya Evans and Bonnie Timms.  He was pre-deceased by a sister, Faye Davis.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Sunday at Princeton Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Loner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family is at the home and will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 PM Sunday at the church prior to the service.
