Marie Gillespie

Ware Shoals – Marie Lillian Motes Gillespie, 85, widow of William Terry Gillespie, of Ware Shoals, died Thursday, January 12, 2017 at White Oak Manor in Newberry.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Raymer Motes. She was a homemaker, and formerly worked in the spinning and weaving departments at Riegel. She was a member of Donalds Church of God.

Ms. Gillespie is survived by one son: Keith Gillespie and wife Melisande of Ware Shoals; one sister: Elizabeth Madden and husband Rev. Truman of Mauldin; four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons; Terry Michael Gillespie, and James Lamar Gillespie; one daughter: Kimberly Michelle Gillespie; and three brothers: Haskell “Buddy” Motes, Kenneth Motes, and Rev. Ernest Arthur Motes, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Parker White Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Dr. Marcus Bishop officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family is at their respective homes, and will receive friends from 2-3 PM Sunday at the funeral home, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tri-County Hospice, 156 Stoneridge Drive, STE 100, Columbia, SC 29210, or to the Alzheimer’s Association, South Carolina Chapter, 4124 Clemson Blvd – Ste L, Anderson, SC 29621, or to Mt.
