Hix Culbreath

Ware Shoals – David Hix Culbreath, 68, husband of Toni Hughes Culbreath, died Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Self Regional Healthcare.

Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Robert Neal Culbreath, Sr. and Evelyn Connor Culbreath Pinson. He was a member of the Ware Shoals First Presbyterian Church and was retired from Michelin of Greenville. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, where he served in the Third Marine Division in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal. He loved his solitude at the Saluda River. He leaves behind his many works of woodcarving as his legacy.

Surviving are his wife of the home, a sister, Selena “Teeny” Burton (Ronnie) of Greenwood, special cousin, James Hudson, special friend, Mark Holbrook, and his loving pet, Simba. He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Selena Connor Culbreath, two brothers, William James Culbreath and Robert Neal Culbreath, Jr., and a sister Barbara Ackers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday, July 24, 2017 at the Ware Shoals First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Wayne Wicker and Rev. Byron Woods officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Oakbrook Memorial Park.

The family is at the home, 12 W. Jackson St., and will receive friends from 10 to 11 A.M. Monday at the Ware Shoals First Presbyterian Church prior to the service. The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorials made to the Ware Shoals First Presbyterian Church, 2 Mill St., Ware Shoals, S.C. 29692.
