Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late James Perry and Jennie Sue Coleman Smith. He was of the Baptist faith. He served in the US Navy and afterward, worked as a contractor until he retired.
Surviving are one son, Joel Frank Smith Jr. (Lisa) of Donalds, one brother, Ronnie Smith of Honea Path, two grandchildren, James Gary Smith and Steven Joel Smith.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by one brother, Jimmy Smith.
Graveside services will be held at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 2PM conducted by the Rev. Grady Lothridge.
The family is at the home, 132 Oxford Rd, Greenwood, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the charity of ones choice in memory of Mr. Smith.
