Freddy Major

Honea Path - Freddy Clyde Major, 83, husband of Shirley Jean Davis Major, died Sunday, November 26, 2017 at AnMed Health Center.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Ernest Clyde and Nettie Murdock Major. He was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church and former member of the Kay McCurry Sunday School Class. He was a graduate the Honea Path High School Class of 1951. He was formerly employed by the Honea Path Chronicle as a linotype setter. His lifelong career was that of a farmer in which he co-owned and operated Major Farms, alongside his son Ernie Major. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, served as Anderson County Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioner for 37 years, a board member of BB&T of Honea Path, and as former chairman and member of Anderson County Farm Service Agency County Committee.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Shirley of the home, a son Ernie Major (Lana) of Honea Path, two grandchildren, Ben and Katherine Major, and a special friend and long time Major Farms employee, Wallace Moore. He was pre-deceased by a brother Pat Major and a nephew, Pat Major, Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Krieger and Pastor Ron Culbertson officiating. A private burial will be held.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 P.M Wednesday at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church prior to the service. In Lieu of flowers Memorials may be made to Mt. Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2603 Due West Highway, Belton, SC 29627. Online condolences may be made at www.ParkerWhitePruitt.com
