Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late James M. and Frances Elizabeth Poore Kirkpatrick. He was a retired conductor for CSX Railroad.
Surviving are a son, John T. Kirkpatrick, Jr. (Shannon) of Donalds, a brother, Clyde Kirkpatrick of Donalds, two sisters, Marian Eleazer of Columbia and Margaret Willbanks of Iva, and three grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a brother, James “Jimmy” Kirkpatrick.
