Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Calvin and Zessie Branyon Ashley. He was a member of the Ware Shoals Church of God of Prophecy.
Surviving are his wife of the home, a son, Micheal Scott Powell (Lisa) of Ware Shoals, two daughters, Tammy Ashley Freeman (Paul) of Ware Shoals and Melissa Powell Wells (Kevin) of Greenwood, a brother, Horace Ashley of Greenwood, and six grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a son, Christopher Dean Ashley, two brothers, Roy and Bobby Ashley, a sister Loree Bruce and a granddaughter, Emily Faith Watson..
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Parker-White Funeral Home Chapel, Ware Shoals, with Rev. Susan Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
The family is at the home and will receive friends from 2 to 3 P.M. Thursday at Parker-White Funeral Home prior to the service.
