Born in Spartanburg, he was a son of Dupree and Geneva B. Fowler. He was of the Baptist Faith. A graduate of Byrnes High of Duncan, he was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and worked as a CAN.
Surviving are his parents of Lyman, three sons, Malachi Fowler of Greer, and Isaac and Ezekiel Fowler, both of Simpsonville, a daughter, Cresa Fowler of Lexington, and two brothers, Michael Johnson of Lyman and Kenneth Johnson of Spartanburg. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Shirley Fowler.
