Margaret Giles

Hodges – Margaret Belle Medlin Giles, 102, widow of Frank Edward Giles, formerly of 7420 Hwy 25 North, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at NHC – Greenwood.

 

Born in Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late Luther Starlin and Vera Hartence Gilmer Medlin. She was a member of Ware Shoals Presbyterian Church, the Hebron Bible Class, the Triple L Club and the SC State Employee Association. Margaret graduated from Ware Shoals High School in 1935 and worked as librarian at Katherine Hall in the YMCA for 4 years. She took courses at Piedmont Technical College and then began work for the following Ware Shoals Doctors, Dr. JP Williamson, Dr. Jordan Holloway, Dr. LR Kirkpatrick and then worked for Dr. Paul B. Pritchard Jr. for 30 years. She loved helping people and this way her way of doing that. After Dr. Pritchard retired she worked for SC DHEC for 6 years before retiring in 1982.

Surviving are: her son, Kenneth Giles of Ware Shoals, her daughter-in-law, Nora Mae Giles of Ware Shoals, her sister, Virgina Vaughn of Donalds, two grandchildren, Beth (Chet) Kidd of Statesville NC, and Scott (Marlene) Giles of Donalds, four great-grandchildren, Cory Kidd, Tyler Kidd, Jadia Giles and Bailey Scott Giles, and two great-great grandchildren, Isaiah Giles and Karlie Giles.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Mike Giles, her brother, Joe Medlin, and two sisters, Mildred Medlin  and Francis Coker.

Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Thursday, August, 8, 2019 at Ware Shoals First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kevin Cartee and Ms. Macy Ruple officiating. A private burial will follow.

The family is at the home of her daughter-in-law, Nora Giles, 25 Frederick Road, Ware Shoals and will receive friends from 12-1 P.M. Thursday at the church prior to the service.
