Frances Smith Hopkins

Ware Shoals - Frances Smith-Hopkins died on December 09, 2019. She was born July 11, 1930, the daughter of the late Mary Loucinda Talley Smith and Barker Lee Smith of Salem, SC. She is the last member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by brothers: Floyd Smith, Jim Smith, Claude Smith, and sisters: Elizabeth Smith Crenshaw, Kate Smith Rush, and Mildred Smith Dyar. She is survived by caring nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and other relatives by “adoption”.

Frances’ professional career included a 50-year employment with the Merrill Lynch Brokerage Firm in Norfolk, VA. The late Mr. Fletcher Garlock interviewed and hired her as a secretary in 1957, and they and others established the first Merrill Lynch office in VA. She became the Executive Assistance to the Resident Manager of the Norfolk Regional Office of Merrill Lynch which included five complexes in the Norfolk/Tidewater region. She was also head of Human Relations. She retired in 2007 at age 76 after serving a host of Resident Managers and Merrill Lynch associates that comprised her Merrill Lynch family.

National Health Care, Greenwood took magnificent care of Frances starting in November 2009. Caris, a division of National Health Care assisted in her care. Special thanks to all the staff at National Health Care, Greenwood, and to the Caris personnel for her loving care in a clean, safe environment.

A memorial service will be held on December 13th  at 11 A.M. in the Parker-White Funeral Home Chapel at 17 North Greenwood Avenue Ext., Ware Shoals, SC  George Rush, nephew, will conduct the service. The Reverend Mary Balfour-Dunlap, and The Reverend Brent Little, Chaplain, Caris Healthcare  will officiate the service.
