Frederick “Pete” Cooley

Frederick “Pete” Augustus Cooley, born October 1, 1928, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 31, 2021.

 

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Augustus and Ethel Cothran Cooley.  He was a faithful member of Honea Path First Baptist Church and served as a deacon for many years. Pete was an avid Clemson fan having served as a past IPTAY Representative.  He served on the Board of Directors of Meals on Wheels of Anderson County, loved to garden and was known to share his harvest especially corn with many in Anderson county and beyond.

He retired after 30 years in the U.S. Air Force with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He was stationed on Air Force bases across the world.  His second career was at Wells Aluminum in Belton, SC for 18 years.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jean Chapman Cooley; two sons, Don Cooley (Kimberly) of Simpsonville and Gregg Cooley (Kim) of Central; two sisters Lucille Parker and Nancy Egan, both of Greenville; brother-in-law Stanley Chapman (Peggy) and sister-in-law Linda Bryant both of Pelzer; four grandchildren, Steven Cooley (Ciera), Katie Dobson (Matt), Austin Cooley (Addie), Preston Cooley (Kelli) and four great grandchildren, Lily Dobson, Rowan Dobson, Liam Cooley and Savannah Cooley.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, seven brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Honea Path First Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Moody officiating. The family will receive friends and family at 1:00 pm in the Sanctuary prior to the service. 

Graveside service will be held on Monday, April 5, 2020 at 4:00 pm at Greenville Memorial Gardens, Piedmont, SC with Reverend Preston Cooley officiating.
