Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Alvin and Mary Margaret Acker Smith. She was a member of Chiquola Baptist Church and retired from Mitchell’s. Mary was a member of the Anderson YMCA for 20 years. She was a military wife first, married to the late James Ray Shaw, Sr.
Surviving are: her son, James Ray Shaw, Jr. of Anderson; her daughter, Mary (Terry) Dee Candler of Townville; her brother, Walter “Buddy” (Savannah) Smith of Anderson; her sister, Nellie Jean (Chris) Bence of Honea Path; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donnie Smith officiating. Burial will be private.
The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends from 10-11 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Chiquola Baptist Church, 405 East Greer St, Honea Path, SC 29654.
