Mildred Hitt

Bradley – Alice Mildred Hitt, 82, of Damascus Church Road, died Thursday, October 28, 2021 at Self Regional Healthcare, Greenwood.

She was born October 19, 1939, to James Austin Hitt Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Gordon Hitt in a country home within the Phoenix Community of Greenwood South Carolina. The Hitt home was full of love, music, and fun which was reflected by Mildred’s personality. Also, being raised in a Christian home and a lifelong member of First Damascus Baptist church firmly cemented her faith in Jesus Christ.

The group gained local recognition for opening for Grand Ole Opry stars like Loretta Lynn, Stonewall Jackson, and Bill Anderson. Later in life, she would continue her passion for music by working with the youth band at First Damascus. She had a large capacity for caring from her days as a Candy Striper volunteering at Self Memorial Hospital; to caring for her aging mother. Mildred was truly a kid at heart and was always entertaining a host of nieces and nephews or children of family friends.
