Kay Sims

Kay McKenzie Craft Sims, 73, of Simpsonville, SC, passed away November 25, 2021, surrounded by family. 

 

Born on December 11, 1947, in Columbia, SC, she was a daughter of the late Richard Willis Craft, Jr. and Frances McKenzie Craft of Simpsonville.  She was the loving wife of George Dennis Sims for almost 51 years.  She is survived by her son William Richard Sims (Kristy) of Pelzer; her daughter Ella McKenzie Sims Barbery (Jay) of Greenville; and predeceased by her son, Howard Allen Sims.  She is also survived by six granddaughters - Cassidy, Kendall, Caroline, McKenzie, Charlotte, and Sally; one great-granddaughter, Autumn; her siblings Mollie Craft Phillips, Mary Craft Grambergs, Richard Willis Craft, III, and Francis E.M. Craft; as well as many loving in-laws, nieces, and nephews. 

Graduating from Erskine College in 1969, Kay spent the majority of her career as a middle school science teacher making an impression on both her students and colleagues.  She had the heart of an artist and saw beauty in every facet of nature.  She loved watercolors, textiles, fossil hunting, antiques, gardening, music, dancing, and animals.  Most of all, she loved her family.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm, Monday, November 29, 2021, at Pruitt Funeral Home, 603 N. Main Street, Honea Path, SC 29654.  A graveside service will follow at 3:30 pm in the Garden of Memories, 29627 Belton Honea Path Hwy, Belton, SC 29627.
