Doris B. Ashley

Honea Path – Doris Balchin Ashley, 91 of Poplar St., widow of Melvin Glen Ashley, died Friday, January 14 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Elberton, GA, she was a daughter of the late William Edgar and Jewel Frost Balchin. She was retired from her work as a teacher’s aide for Anderson School District 2, and was a member of Honea Path First Baptist Church.

Doris is survived by her two sons: Melvin Glen Ashley Jr. and wife Linda of Belton and Ronald Waymon Ashley and wife Tammy of Honea Path; her daughter Wanda Jane Ashley and husband Sean of Honea Path; her sister Flonnie Shaw of Spartanburg; six grandchildren: Melvin Glen ‘Trey’ Ashley III, Christopher Lee Ashley, Lucas Blake Ashley, Haukon Raighn, Morgan Ashley and Meredith Ashley; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a special nephew: Chad Ashley.

She was preceded in death by her brother George “Buddy” Balchin and four sisters: Billie Wilson, Sarah Nichols, Maxie McDonald, and Rebecca Balchin.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at the Garden of Memories with Rev. Jason Webb and Mr. Tony Shaw officiating.

The family is at the home of her son, Melvin, 2205 Due West Highway, Belton, and will receive friends Wednesday at the graveside, following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Honea Path First Baptist Church’s Youth Fund or Building Fund, 100 S. Main St., Honea Path SC 29654.
