Born in Newberry County, he was a son of the late Willie Preston and Mary Louise Boland Mattison. He was of the Baptist faith, was retired from his work as an electrician and in construction, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served from 1953 to 1959. He was a member of the VFW, a Master Mason, and a member of the Moose Club.
Mr. Mattison is survived by his two daughters: Melodie Woods (John) of Ware Shoals and Tammy Posey (Dennis) of Anderson; his stepson James Lysle of Idaho; his stepdaughter Barbara Jo Robinson (Mac) of Ohio; his two brothers: Melvin Mattison (Mary Lou) of West Virginia and Billy Mattison (Judy) of Georgia; his two sisters: Lillie Anne Hughes (Carroll) of Honea Path and June Cathcart (Paul) of Ware Shoals; three grandchildren: Tania Fain (Andy), Candace Posy (Adam) and Anthony Posey (Brandi); and many great and great-great grandchildren that he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his stepson Michael Lysle.
