Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Mason Smith and Lois Brock Tinsley. He was of the Baptist Faith, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and a member of Centre Lodge #37 A.F.M. He was retired from the Monsanto Company after 33 years of service.
Surviving are his wife, Loretta of the home, a daughter, Tammy Brown of Honea Path, a sister Peggy Alewine of Level Land, grandsons, Jimmy C. Brown, III (Kristin) and them Brown Boys, three great-grandchildren, Hunter, Jase, and Jagger, and a canine friend, Bandit. He was predeceased by two brothers, Bill and Ray Smith.
